How to Use the Amsler Grid

  1. Distance: Hold this grid 12-15 inches (30-38 cm) away from your eyes in good lighting.
  2. Glasses: Wear your reading glasses if you normally use them.
  3. Cover One Eye: Cover one eye with your hand.
  4. Focus on Center Dot: Look directly at the center dot with your uncovered eye. Keep your eye focused on the center dot.
  5. Check the Grid: While staring at the center dot, use your peripheral vision to check if:
    • All grid lines appear straight (not wavy or distorted)
    • All areas are clear (no dark, blurry, or blank spots)
    • You can see all four corners of the grid
  6. Test Other Eye: Repeat steps 3-5 with your other eye covered.

Note: If you notice any wavy lines, blurry areas, dark spots, or distortions, contact your eye doctor immediately. This grid is for monitoring vision changes, not for diagnosis.
